Yamaha India contest
Guys (n gals) this is the hot news for the month. Yamaha India is running a contest and is giving away goodies all signed by the ace Valentino “doctor” Rossi. all you have to do to participate is fill in your details, answer some simple questions and register. You do not need to own a Yamaha to participate. The end date is : 31st May 2010.
Here is the list of Prizes you could win.
| PRIZE DESCRIPTION | NUMBER OF PRIZES OFFERED IN THE SCHEME IN ENTIRE INDIA |
| Micromaxx Mobile phones | 5 (grand prize) |
| Yamaha casio G-shock Watches | 6 (Fortnightly) |
| Racing gloves | 9 (Fortnightly) |
| Yamaha Mugs | 30(Fortnightly) |
| Yamaha Tshirt (exclusive) signed by V. Rossi | 9 (Fortnightly) |
| Technology brochure (exclusive) signed by V. Rossi | 30 (Fortnightly) |
honestly though, I think Yamaha should have been more generous with the Prize selection. A Mobile that has been recently introduced by any of the major players would have been much better. The rest of the prices are rather OK. But one thing that a brand should always focus on is keeping its name. And I think Yamaha has done itself some bad with the choice of the First Prize! The contest ends on 31st May 2010. So Hurry Up!

Test ride on a Yamaha FZ16 – Review
Although it has been some time since the FZ16 was out, I didn’t care to try one. Mostly because I was busy. SO when I got my vacation I decided to try my hands on an FZ. As all of us have heard the technical specification of the FZ a hundred times now, I won’t give to any figures here nor would I compare the performance with other bikes.
As we all know the FZ16 is the most masculine looking bike in India today. This was achieved mainly by increasing the width of every conceivable part on the bike. The tanks is small but the fiber housing around it gives the tank an extra big footprint. The bigger front shocks at 41mm, wider back radial tires at 140mm, smaller seats, everything has been designed with amazing precision.

The biggest complaint I had heard about FZ was that the seating posture was little awkward. but this is not entirely true. For the two days I was on FZ I never felt uncomfortable. Actually its better when you sit a little leaned to the front.
The gear shifts are smooth, but the throttle response on some bikes it a little jerky. When you go from idle to increasing the RPM the bike has got a small jerk because the throttle is not tight enough.
The FZ has got a double sided sword. The fat tires. Since the rear tire is a wide radial, the ride comfort has been great compared to other bikes. We rode the FZ on loose sand at the beach with a pillion rider, thanks to the radial, it was far to easy. The same radial causes problems when you try to lean too much at a turn. Since the radials curvature is much smaller than normal tires, you can actually feel it push against you when you do a sharp corner. hat is why the R15 has got a normal slimmer tire.
Another problem with FZ is the low ground clearance and rear mudguards. Since it is low it has got a tendency to get its underside rub on the road when going over a bump. Since the rear wheel is smaller (in diameter) when it rains and if you are going slow, pillion rider will be more like a mud collector on the back. On rainy days the front wheel is also highly efficient in splattering the water from road right to the riders legs. All of this imply that you get a dirty bike after a days ride, if rained..
The seat is small, increasing the total appeal of the bike, but this caused many fat ass riders to say that FZ is uncomfortable.
Coming to the better shades of FZ we can see that it is the most sexy bike available on Indian roads. A unique look with wider tire and a stunning silencer. The ride comfort as stated earlier is above average. Yamaha got a good engine on this FZ but the power could have been better. Handling is good unless you are doing a sharp corner. Breaking is brilliant. Acceleration is also above average, but on the fifth gear the acceleration is better than most other bikes.

Over all this is an amazing bike from Yamaha, and you can see the sales figures reciting just that.
Best 180 degree rolling stoppie on an FZ16 – Video
This is a video of a guy doing a 180 degree rolling stoppie on his Yamaha FZ16. Recently found this video on Youtube. I haven’t seen any good stoppies by Indians actually. This on is the beast stoppie by any Indian. Also it is a rolling stoppie. Many videos on Youtube claiming to be rolling stoppies are actually not. This guy is really amazing. Cheers for him.
